Was Je Tsongkhapa autistic?
Totally speculative and obviously no way to test the hypothesis, but having read many of his works and biography, it seems at least within the realm of possibility that he'd qualify for an extraordinarily high-functioning autist.
Just think... his extreme intellectualism and detachment... if you were to meet someone like that in today's world it might be a reasonable assumption to make that they were neurologically atypical.
Leads me to wonder how many Buddhist "saints" were perhaps people on the autism spectrum? "None" seems unrealistic, whereas "a small minority" seems quite probable.
I'd be particularly interested to know if there has been any research done on this.
