Things You Need for Your Journey - Thanissaro Bhikkhu
I've been enjoying dharma talks by Thanissaro Bhikkhu since seeing one posted in r/Buddhism recently. I was excited to see an article by him in the recent November issue of Lion's Roar magazine. Some highlights:
Things You Need for Your Journey
- Two principles that are most useful
- Externally, admirable friendship
- Having a friend, a really wise, good person and trying to emulate the good qualities
- Good qualities:
- Conviction in the Buddha's awakening
- Virtue
- Generosity
- Discernment
- Internally, appropriate attention
- Focuses on solving the problem of suffering
- The path to ending suffering is something skillful you can learn to do
- Externally, admirable friendship
- Believing in the power of action, you focus on changing the way you act
- Be observant
- Discern good and bad actions of yourself and your teacher
- Honesty
- Being honest with yourself and your teacher about your faults
- Be observant
I found the article to be excellent, with nearly every sentence clearly conveying important concepts. I am interested in what others think of this article and Thanissaro Bhikkhu. Please share your thoughts.
