I am a completely secular person interested in becoming a monk. Does a private belief such as atheism conflict with life as a monk?

I am interested in becoming a monk because of the opportunity to live a simple, structured, and happy life. I wish to surrender certain aspects of my life to a monastery. The philosophy is most attractive.

I have learned quite a bit about life as a monk, but I know so little about the actual theology of Buddhism. Are there resources that explain it in simple terms? I am curious about how it plays a role in monasteries.
