Hello /r/Buddhism. I have autism/aspergers. I'm socially awkward and it's hard for me to meet new people. My best friend killed himself earlier this year and I've been feeling very lonely and depressed. Can Buddhism help me deal with these feelings?
I'm more drawn to Buddhism than other religions because I like many of the teachings behind it and I think the Buddha was a cool guy. I also like, looking at it from an atheist perspective, that it doesn't require I believe in a god, which I couldn't force myself to believe in even if I wanted to.
I'm just looking for a way to help manage my feelings without reliance on other people. I don't want to sink further into depression and I'd like to reverse this trend as soon as possible.
