The Buddhist activism of U Dhammaloka: A way to unite East and West?
You proabably haven't heard of U Dhammaloka. Highly influential in his time, he disappeared without trace both literally and figuartively since then. An Irishman born in the 1850s, he left home to travel the world. becoming a logger in Burma where he took ordination in 1884. He quickly became involved in the preservation of Burmese culture against aggressive Christian proselytisation. His work there was characterised by respect for traditional customs and hostility to the expasionism that characterizes Christian thought. You can Read more about him here. What do people think?
