Ritual vs. Spontaneity, some doubt arising about my practice

My practice has become very ritualistic since I took up Pure Land practice. I've been convinced regarding the legitimacy of Pure Land, but the doubt still arises: "is this what I should actually be doing?" When I look at the goal of Buddhism, liberation from duhkha, the ritual aspect of most Buddhist schools feels somewhat binding, as if it's attachment wearing different clothes. Now I'm struggling with the notion of whether or not I ease up on the ritual aspect and aim towards a more spontaneous, "Daoist" approach to life (which to me rings true to liberation) or whether I need to keep diving deeper into these rituals and hope their promises of liberation later on come to fruition. Any advice? Thanks!
