Faith in Buddhism
I haven't had much faith in religious figures or teachings in quite some time, but I would like to. What is the basis of faith in Buddhism? What are the obstacles to faith and how does one overcome them? I seem to remember that faith in Buddhism means believing that practices will lead to awakening. But surely there is more to it than that. Many Buddhists believe in deities, bodhisattvas, efficacy of rituals, reincarnation, etc. I imagine that believing in such things reinforces one's faith in the practice of meditation. I guess what I really want is to believe there is superior wisdom and goodness in the world, and to feel connected to and nourished by it. How do I get there after years of doubt?
