Advice on changing mindfulness practice to meditation?
(By the way, my heart leans towards the Tibetan traditions. I couldn’t tell you what individual school, though.)
I used to have PTSD maybe ten years ago (Post Traumatic Growth). For me, it’s old news. But what got me through it, one of techniques my therapist taught, was ["square breathing"](http a://goo.gl/images/gycn72).
I practiced this with my therapist and then on my own, I experimenting with different ratios. I’m currently able to do:
2 for inhale 8 to retain 4 for exhale 2 to sustain
I do that for 30 minutes, but sometimes for an hour if I feel I can dedicate the time. I used to do it every day, but lately, I’ve been doing it every couple of days. I don’t feel like I’m under any obligation, but it makes me feel “lighter,” “clearer,” and “brighter.”
Seems like for the past decade, I’ve only been doing mindfulness training and not meditation. I want to change that.
I also pray with mala beads, but that’s another conversation.
I made the mistake of googling breathing meditation, and I got the four links below. From what I can tell, I think my counting breathing exercises might be pranayama? I don’t know. Maybe EL15?
Can someone please help me?
