Harming and killing
According to Wikipedia's Theravada page, "By abandoning the very acts of killing and harming, one gets to be reborn in a heavenly world."
When do you suppose one must abandon harming and killing to achieve such a reward?
Must I never kill or harm in my life to achieve such a reward (in which case it's definitely to late), or is resolving (and acting on said resolve) not to kill or harm prior to death sufficient? Does unintentional harming count? What if I make my resolution on my deathbed?
How was it determined (and by whom) that not harming or killing would earn rebirth into heavenly realm?
The more I study and learn, the more questions I have.
