Buddhism and Personality

What do they say about one's personality?

I find i am often in conflict with the teachings. When we look at monks, they are very gentle, and it appears they are perhaps not quite "strong" personalities. I say this because in recent times, i find i am becoming quite distrustful of relationships as a means for lasting stability and happiness, and am much more comfortable relying on myself and this tends to create firm boundaries as to what i will find appropriate and acceptable, so to speak. I find that just going along with everyone's whims and fancies tends to create much suffering from within, and so maybe its better to protect yourself from the dangers of the world.

Perhaps this is quite vague, but it comes along with the notion that, in everyday life, one might be better equipped to adopt a specific kind of persona. I am taught to accept whatever that comes along, even if it is not worth paying attention to.
