Enlightened individuals - do they have no attachments? Or have they simply gained insight into their nature and overcome their influence?

What I understood is that Enlightenment just means they've achieved some sort of supreme insight into the nature of phenomena, and as a result, they have complete choice as to whether they engage in the various attachments that arise in them, such as, attachments which would compel and ordinary person to rebirth. An Enlightened individual would witness those compulsions as they arise and see their true nature, and thus have the option to not engage in them.

Is this understanding correct? Because I feel like I've seen people float around the idea that an Enlightened person has no attachments at all, but that makes no sense to me. Someone with no attachments would have no compulsion to get up and eat when their body gets hungry, and would have no reason to respond to people who attempt to talk to them and ask them questions.
